Community websites for small towns
Stronger towns start with knowing what's going on.
Mayberry Media builds and runs free community websites for small towns. Each one is a resource for everyone who lives there: a place to get the word out on events, to find and support local businesses, and to keep up with the people who make a town home.
Why we do this
Small towns run on word of mouth.
These days that word is scattered across a dozen Facebook groups, flyers on a corkboard, and the one neighbor who always seems to know. The fundraiser gets a dozen people when it could have had a hundred. The new bakery opens and half the town doesn't hear about it for months.
We bring it back to one place that belongs to the whole community. When people know what's happening, they show up. When they show up, local events grow, local businesses stay open, and neighbors stay connected.
Our purpose is simple: strengthen communities, and be a resource to everyone in them.
What a community site does
One home for everything local.
Every Mayberry Media site is built around the town it serves. Here's what each one does for the people who live there.
Helps events get the word out
One calendar for the whole area, free to post. Events go out in a weekly email and on social media, with reminders so people remember to come.
Makes small businesses visible
A free listing for every local business, with hours, photos, specials and directions, so locals and visitors can find them first.
Gives entrepreneurs a start
Pages for makers, artists, home businesses and market vendors, so people just getting started have somewhere to point customers.
Connects people with work
A local jobs board where employers post openings and residents can sign up for alerts, so good jobs get filled by people who live nearby.
Keeps everyone informed
Plain-language notices about public meetings and local decisions, written neutrally, so everyone can follow what's happening and take part.
Brings neighbors together
Room for clubs, teams, churches and nonprofits to find members, and a way to thank the volunteers and neighbors who quietly keep a town running.
How we run every site
The same promises, in every town.
- Free for the communityResidents, events and local businesses never pay for the basics. Listing, posting and reading are always free.
- The same for everyoneEvery business gets the same listing and follows the same rules, whether or not they ever buy anything.
- Locals firstVisitors are welcome, but each site is made for the people who live there year round.
- Neutral on local issuesWe share what's on the agenda, not what to think about it.
- Room for every voiceEveryone in the community is welcome to take part, and the rules apply to everyone equally.
